Mike Greene was born and raised in Seattle Washington. From an early age he was very active in all sports, but basketball was always number one. He went to Roosevelt High School, where he played varsity basketball for three years.
Mike was used as role player his sophomore year and a starter his junior and senior years. During his sophomore year Mike averaged 8pts a game, coming off the bench mainly to stretch defenses with his 3 pt shooting. Junior year Mike averaged 16pts and 7 rebounds a game and his Rough Riders team was ranked as high as 12th in the state. Senior year Mike averaged 19pts, 8 rebounds and 2 blocks a game and his Rough Riders were ranked as high as 7th in the state and finished with 21-7 record. Mike earned all-league/ state honors his senior year.
After high school Mike attended Walla Walla CC, averaging 9 pts and 7 rebounds a game his freshman year. His team went 23-10 and had a fourth-place finish in the NWACC tournament. Mike then finished his playing career at WWU (Western Washington University) where he averaged 8pts, 6 rebounds and 2 blocked shots a game. Basketball was cut short that year due to injury.
For the last 20+yrs Mike has worked with kids on many various levels as coach and teacher, and continues to have a passion to teach and share his knowledge of the game with our youth.
Mike has been coaching at LocalHoops since 2014. On occasion he will still lace up his sneakers and play competitive basketball.
